More Than Conquerors
INTRODUCTION: Imagine a mountain climber scaling a steep, dangerous cliff. The climber is tethered to a rope that has been tested, secured, and proven to hold. No matter how strong the wind blows or how high the climb, the climber is confident because they trust the rope. In the life of the believer, God’s love is that rope, unchanging, unbreakable, and ever-present. Romans 8 reminds us that no matter the circumstances, we are more than conquerors through Christ, and nothing can sever the tie of His love.
Romans 8:37-39
3-BOLD DECLARATIONS OF PAUL IN ROMANS 8
1. WE OVERCOME THROUGH HIS LOVE
a. Paul makes a bold declaration, in all these things, not apart from them, not after them, but in them, we are
more than conquerors.
i. Romans 8:37 “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
b. The phrase "more than conquerors" (Greek: hypernikōmen) means a decisive, overwhelming victory.
2. WE ARE PERSUADED OF HIS PERMANENCE
a. Paul isn’t guessing; he is persuaded.
i. Romans 8:38 “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life... shall be able to separate us from the
love of God...”
b. This is a settled confidence, an unwavering conviction.
3. WE LIVE SECURE IN CHRIST JESUS
a. Notice that the love of God is not generic; it is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
i. Romans 8:39 “...shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
b. It is a love grounded in the relationship we have with Him through salvation.
