God's Design - We Were Created For Community
Imagine a single burning coal pulled away from a roaring fire. At first, it glows brightly, still hot, still alive. But before long, it begins to dim. The flame fades, the warmth disappears, and soon, it’s cold and lifeless. Yet, if you place that same coal back into the fire alongside the others, it reignites—its heat restored by the strength of the surrounding flame.
That’s a picture of our lives as believers. Alone, we grow cold, discouraged, distant, and spiritually dull. But in the warmth of the godly community, we thrive. We were never meant to burn alone. Just as coals need each other to sustain their flame, we need one another to stay spiritually strong, encouraged, and on mission for God. This is why God designed us for community; it’s where we find strength, support, and spiritual fire.
3-PROOFS GOD DESIGNED AND CREATED US FOR COMMUNITY
1. GOD’S NATURE REFLECTS COMMUNITY
a. God exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a perfect triune community.
i. Genesis 1:26 "And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness..."
b. This divine fellowship within the Trinity forms the original model for human relationships.
2. COMPANIONSHIP MEETS A DEEP NEED
a. Even in a perfect garden with perfect communion with God, Adam lacked human companionship.
i. Genesis 2:18 "And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an
help meet for him."
b. God declared aloneness "not good," teaching us that relationships are a spiritual and emotional necessity.
3. THE EARLY CHURCH MODELED GOD’S DESIGN
a. The early church exemplified genuine community, studying, eating, praying, and sharing life.
i. Acts 2:44 "And all that believed were together and had all things common."
ii. Acts 2:42 “continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in the breaking of bread,
and in prayers."
b. This vibrant fellowship was instrumental in the growth and power of the early church.
